As creators, I think we can all agree - that phrase has been beaten to death! And when you’ve got something amazing to share, but the platform’s rules make it tricky - what do we do? Social media algorithms don’t love external links, and saying “link in bio” can hurt your reach. It's time to finally put that phrase to rest in your content.
But don’t worry—we’ve got clever workarounds to keep your audience engaged and clicking.

Why Platforms Dislike External Links
Social platforms want to keep users ON their app, so anything that redirects them OFF is penalized—sometimes subtly, sometimes significantly. This means we need to get creative about how we share links without losing reach or engagement.
Smart Workarounds to avoid "Link in bio"
Keyword Substitutes: Instead of directly saying “link in bio,” use phrases like:
“Check the link where you usually find it.”
“Grab it through my profile up top!”
"You know where to click!"
"The magic happens through the link in my profile!"
Lead Magnets: Offer a free resource that links to your product. This drives traffic to your product indirectly while adding value for your audience. For example:
“Want my top 3 __RV setup_ hacks? Download my free guide—link in profile!”
"Struggling with ________? Grab our free step-by-step leveling checklist—link in profile!"
"Looking for the best RV-friendly _holiday gifts_? Download my top 10 must-have apps for RVers—free!"

Engagement-Boosting Comments: Encouraging your audience to comment a specific word like “INFO” or “HOLIDAY” is a great way to boost engagement while guiding them toward the product. Once they comment, you can send them the link directly via DM. This technique not only avoids algorithm penalties but also fosters a sense of direct connection with your audience.
For Instagram, there are automated tools available that can handle this process for you. Tools like ManyChat or similar platforms allow you to set up automatic replies for comments, sending the link or further information via DM without manual effort. This can save a ton of time and help scale the process. According to Campin’ Erin, who shared her experience in our call, this method has worked well for her on Instagram, driving significant engagement and conversions. For TikTok and YouTube, automation isn’t currently available, so creators will need to reply manually. While this takes more time, it’s still a highly effective method to build engagement and drive traffic. Erin also noted that despite the extra effort, this strategy continues to perform well on TikTok for her, showing strong results.
On-Screen Text or Graphics: Using text or graphics on your video is a simple, effective way to point viewers to your profile link without saying it directly.
Keep it Short and Clear: Use captions like:
“Grab it here!”
“Find the magic up top!”
“Click the link in my profile!”
Make it Visual: Add arrows or text boxes that point to where viewers should go. A quick “demo” of navigating to your link can also be super helpful.
Why it works: A visual cue keeps things engaging while making it crystal clear where your audience should go next.
Actionable CTAs: Call-to-actions (CTAs) work best when they create a sense of urgency and highlight a clear benefit.
Examples:
“This deal won’t last—grab it before it's gone!”
“Don’t miss out on this exclusive offer!”
“Save yourself the hassle—click the link today!”
Why it works: A good CTA gives viewers a reason to act immediately while keeping it personal and relatable. Pair this with your natural enthusiasm to make it even more impactful!
Getting around the “link in bio” issue is all about being creative and subtle. By keeping engagement high and providing clear value, you can guide your audience to the resources they need without upsetting the algorithm. Written By: Amanda Cooper
